Rea, David K.; Vallier, Tracy L. (1983): Two Cretaceous volcanic episodes in the western Pacific Ocean. Geological Society of America (GSA), Boulder, CO, United States, Geological Society of America Bulletin, 94 (12), 1430-1437, georefid:1983-062473

Abstract:
Stratigraphic analyses of cores from Deep Sea Drilling Project. The older episode, Aptian to Cenomanian resulted in the formation of most of the oceanic plateaus. In the younger; Santonian to Maestrichtian, several island and seamount chains formed. These volcanic events covered an area of at least 30 X 10 (super 6) km (super 2) . Possibly, the older episode was responsible for a Cretaceous sea-level high and concomitant epicontinental transgression.--Modified journal abstract.
