From the coccolith flux estimation in two eastern equatorial Pacific sites (ODP Site 849 and 852, Leg 138), a spectral analysis was carried out in order to detect some periodicity related to the Milankovitch frequencies. The studied interval in the upper Pliocene (4 to 2 Ma) was divided into two periods: between 4 and 3.2 Ma, and between 3.2 and 2 Ma. The reentry of Coccolithus pelagicus at 3.2 Ma was used to define the boundary between both intervals. Site 849, located in a region of oceanographic divergence, shows lower coccolith fluxes than Site 852, located in the convergence area; however, in both sites, the coccolith flux distribution was mainly controlled by precession and obliquity. The eccentricity frequencies are weakly defined.
