Volume estimates are calculated for common mid-Cretaceous nannofossils, using a methodology previously developed from studies of extant nannoplankton. The range of volume variation within this group is highlighted, and the potential of such estimates for giving new insights into palaeoecological and palaeoceanographic studies is outlined.
