Abstract:
ODP (Ocean Drilling Program), started in 1985, ended in September, 2003. From October, 2003, IODP (Integrated Ocean Drilling Program) newly started. Scientific drilling in IODP will be carried out by three drilling rigs including [Chikyu] prepared by Japan. To select drilling sites, seismic survey (2 dimensional seismic survey and/or 3 dimensional seismic survey) will be carried out. Thanks to recent development of geophysical instruments and new technologies, one can get rather detailed information directly from seismic data, but it is very important to drill wells or get cores as reference data. Here, recent development of seismic data interpretation and its possible applications in the future will be discussed.
