This issue contains news notes on: a third territory of Canada called Nunavut and its heritage; average thickness of the permanent Arctic ice reduced from 6 meters to 4 meters, total area of permanent ice in the Arctic sunk by 20%; the Ocean Drilling Program to find how sensitive the Antarctic ice is to climate changes and explore the history and evolution of Earth's crust; the West Antarctic Ice Sheet (WAIS) initiative to investigate the influence of the West Antarctic ice sheet on climate and sea level change.
