Abstract:
Uses ice-rafted detritus (IRD) layers found in deep-sea cores from southeast Atlantic Ocean to consider occasions of Antarctic ice sheet instability. Shows connection between South Atlantic IRD events and increase in North Atlantic deep water production with inferred warming during interstadials in North Atlantic. Subsequent sea-level rise may have released grounded ice shelves in Weddell Sea region.
