ODP Site 690B on Maud Rise provides a Paleocene/Eocene boundary interval. Reinvestigation of magnetostratigraphy was carried out on 98 specimens from 12 cores. A declination cluster is identified and matches previous studies of the same site. Earlier mismatches of magnetozones-biozones are eliminated in this study by estimating overprinting in these samples and developing a filtered section. The authors recommend that dating in this section be based on biostratigraphy rather than magnetostratigraphy as it is not possible to define the upper and lower boundaries of the magnetochron.
