Abstract:
The distribution of foraminifers in the North Atlantic from the Jurassic up to the present was analyzed. The relationship between the content of CO (sub 2) in the atmosphere, which reflects volcanic activity and species diversity of foraminifers, was examined. Against the background of the general reduction in diversity, the maximum number of foraminifers species was found in the Oxfordian and Kimmeridgian of the Late Jurassic, in the Lower and Middle Maestrichtian of the Late Cretaceous, and in the Eocene of the Paleogene, i.e., during the periods with high concentrations of CO (sub 2) .
