The Upper Cretaceous genus Nephrolithus is redescribed utilizing scanning electron microscope examination of well-preserved specimens from the southern Atlantic Ocean and Tasman Sea. The microstructure of N. frequens is described, and a new species, Nephrolithus corystus, is proposed for specimens from Falkland Plateau Deep Sea Drilling Project sites.--Journal abstract.
