Abstract:
About 50 years ago modern techniques for geophysical exploration began to take shape. First the echo sounder yielded a continuous profile record, then seismic, magnetic, and gravity techniques were developed. Now, direct evidence of the nature of the rocks in the subsea bottom is published by the Deep Sea Drilling Project every six months, and indicates their physical properties, composition, paleontology, and chemistry of interstitial solutions.
