Abstract:
Antarctic glaciations and climate change in mid-Cenozoic caused by thermal isolation of Antarctica after formation of Circum-Antarctic Current are discussed in this article. This current surrounding Antarctic continent has been formed in lower Cenozoic during breakup of Australia and Antarctica and finalized after Drake Passage opening between South America and Antarctic Peninsula. This process, as a result, caused thick ice sheet formation, in Antarctica which in return, leads to changes in Circum-Antarctic Current intensity by increasing or decreasing in volume of ice sheet.
