Dmitrenko, O. B. (2002): Biogeographic zonality of the Miocene nannoplankton in the South Ocean. MAIK Nauka/Interperiodica, Birmingham, AL, United States, Oceanology, 42 (5), 694-703, georefid:2003-013081

Abstract:
The analysis of the abundance and distribution areas of nannofossil species and assemblages in the bottom sediments of the South Ocean resulted in their biogeographic zoning from outlining the Antarctic, Subantarctic, Notal, and Subtropical zones for the Early, Middle, and Late Miocene. The conclusions are based on the results of the study of nannoplankton from the DSDP and ODP deep-sea holes. The heterogeneity of bio-geographic settings and their variability are related to different trends in the climatic changes in different areas of the South Ocean and to the general cooling during the Miocene.
