Abstract:
Reviews the significance of paleoceanographic findings in the Southern Ocean for the global climate change cycle and outlines the topics covered in the ten papers in this special volume. Topics covered include surface water circulation in the Plio-Pleistocene Southern Ocean, the opening of the Drake Passage, sea-surface temperatures in the Pleistocene and the Mid-Pleistocene Transition. The ten papers in this volume focus on results from the Ocean Drilling Program's Leg 177 in the eastern Atlantic sector of the Southern Ocean. (SNT)
