Crouch, E. M.; Hollis, C. J. (1996): Paleogene palynomorph and radiolarian biostratigraphy of DSDP Leg 29, sites 280 and 281 South Tasman Rise. Institute of Geological & Nuclear Sciences, Lower Hutt, New Zealand, Institute of Geological & Nuclear Sciences Science Report, 96/19, M24/773, M24/774, 46 pp., georefid:2000-038476

Abstract:
Eocene palynomorph assemblages from Deep Sea Drilling Project Leg 29 holes 280A and 281 are reexamined and illustrated. The palynofloras are dominated by dinoflagellates, which have an Antarctic biogeographic aspect, and confirm earlier age estimates of the base of the fossiliferous sequence in the two drillholes of Middle Eocene (latest Heretaungan or Porangan) and Late Eocene (Kaiatan), respectively. Reassessment of the radiolarian succession in Hole 280A, in the light of advances in Subantarctic radiolarian biostratigraphy, is used to locate the Eocene/Oligocene and Early/Late Oligocene boundaries in this sequence. Re-examination of Hole 281 radiolaria indicates that, contrary to previous results, the Oligocene is absent from Hole 281.
