Abstract:
New organic geochemical and biostratigraphic data for cores covering the Albian-Campanian interval at DSDP site 369A, offshore Aaium-Tarfunn basin, NW Africa, are integrated with limited data previously acquired. Organic geochemical investigations focussed on relatively dark-coloured core intervals and comprised initial screening for TOC content and subsequent Rock-Eval pyrolysis. The TOC contents ranged up to 11.5 %, significantly higher than previous results (6 % maximum) when lighter-coloured lithologies had been selectively sampled. Rock-Eval pyrolysis indicated the presence of Type II kerogen. The profile of TOC content vs. depth over the studied interval showed cyclical variations.
