Abstract:
Ddata are analyzed on nannoplankton presence, distribution, and abundance, published in the reports on deep-sea drilling from aboard the D/V Glomar Challenger and the D/V Joides Resolution. Generalized meridional profiles are compiled, which allowed us to distinguish five major paleoecological groups of species. Their distribution represents the conditions characteristic of different biogeographic zones: (1) equatorial-tropical species not featuring high concentrations; (2) specialized tropical species both featuring and not featuring high concentrations; (3) species of wide geographic occurrence with concentrations elevated in tropical zones; (4) subtropical species of general and bipolar distribution; (5) species of cold subtropical and temperate areas both featuring and not featuring high concentrations in polar latitudes (bipolar and subpolar species).
