Abstract:
Twenty-three species of the genus Bradleya Hornibrook were encountered in a study of Tertiary and Quaternary D.S.D.P. cores from the Southwest Pacific. Of these species, 11 are new (Bradleya metamorphica. B. pelasgica, B. pseudodictyon, B. solida, B. caudata, B. labyrinthica. B. lordhowensis, B. multireticulata, B. ossa, B. pygmaea and B. queenslandia); 2 species have been previously described (B. dictyon (Brady) and B. mckenziei Benson); another species is compared to B. nuda Benson and 9 are left in open nomenclature. The genus is divided into two informal groups; those closely related to B. dictyon and those not closely related to this species mor, necessarily to one another. The stratigraphical distribution of both groups is outlined and a postulated phylogeny of the B., dictyon group is erected.
